 Science Lab Database (SLD)

ScienceLabDatabase (SLD) offers a useful platform to organise a molecular biology research laboratory. The program manages stocks of biological samples including plasmids, antibodies and cell lines, laboratory protocols, addresses, and includes an easy ordering and funds managing system. Preformed datasheet templates help to store and maintain precious information of samples or reagents and facilitate the transfer of accurate information between researchers. Password protection regulates access, and simple button functions allow the use of this system without prior database knowledge. SLD is based on FileMakerPro 4.0 which allows easy customisation and import of pre-existing data from other applications.

The following versions of SLD are available:

We recommend the first two versions of the program, as stand alone versions cannot be modified.

The fee for each license is 100 US$ plus shipping and handling.

SLD-Mac

requires Mac OS 7 or higher and Filemaker Pro 4.0 or higher

SLD-Windows

Preformed data entry sheet of the "Plasmid" subdatabase

The screen shot of the 'Plasmid" database displays the data entry form in the browse mode. The entry of the pBluescript plasmid illustrates the information that can be stored. Buttons are used to open a DNA analysis program, a "Draw map" program or the "Oligos" subdatabase. The "Box it" button opens the stocks database and the plasmid is placed into the appropriate box. Insert: Virtual box showing plasmid containing tubes. Upon allocating a tube to a particular box, the "Box it" button is used to open the box display in the "Stocks" database. The name of the plasmid is transferred to its precise location with a "Drag&Drop" function.
